In a major step to curb fuel theft and smuggling, Pakistan’s federal government has announced plans to digitize fuel dispensing nozzles at petrol stations nationwide.
Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik shared the initiative during a media briefing at the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) office, stating that the Ministry of Petroleum will introduce digital nozzles to enhance transparency and stop illegal fuel practices.

Addressing domestic gas concerns, the minister noted that local supplies are limited and said he would request the Prime Minister’s help. He added that new household connections might need to depend on imported gas.
Malik also revealed that power plants are not buying LNG, resulting in the suspension of 400 MMCFD of local gas. He acknowledged the increase in the Petroleum Development Levy (PDL) but clarified it hasn’t yet impacted fuel prices for consumers.
On trade ties with the U.S., he said a special committee has been formed to explore options for boosting imports.
