The government has once again increased petrol and diesel prices amid rising global crude oil costs and ongoing economic difficulties, according to a late-night notification from the Finance Division on Tuesday.

The Petroleum Division stated that petrol is now costlier by Rs5.36 per litre, while the price of high-speed diesel has jumped by Rs11.37 per litre. These revised rates are effective from July 16 and are expected to affect millions of vehicle owners and transporters nationwide.

Following the hike, petrol will now sell at Rs272.15 per litre, up from Rs266.79, while high-speed diesel has climbed from Rs272.98 to Rs284.35 per litre.

Officials attributed the increase to unstable trends in the international oil market, which continue to influence local fuel pricing.

In Pakistan, fuel prices are reviewed every two weeks, based on shifts in global oil markets and the exchange rate of the rupee.

Earlier, on July 1, the government had also raised fuel prices for the first half of the month, citing volatility due to the Iran-Israel conflict.

At that time, petrol rose by Rs8.36 per litre to Rs266.79, and diesel went up by Rs10.39 to Rs272.98, in line with recommendations from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).

As Pakistan relies on imports for nearly 85% of its petroleum consumption, it remains particularly vulnerable to global geopolitical tensions and market disruptions.
