The federal government on Thursday announced a major relief for the industrial and agricultural sectors by fixing the Electricity Rate at Rs 22.98 per unit on an incremental basis. The announcement came as part of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s “Roshan Maeeshat Electricity Package,” designed to promote economic growth through lower energy costs.
According to the Power Division, the new package will remain effective for three years — from November 2025 to October 2028. Under this plan, both industries and farmers will receive additional electricity at concessional rates, aimed at improving productivity and reducing operational expenses.
Currently, industries pay Rs 34 per unit, while the agriculture sector pays Rs 38 per unit. Under the revised Electricity Rate, both sectors will now receive incremental power at Rs 22.98 per unit. This reduction is expected to significantly ease financial pressure on producers and help increase exports and employment opportunities.
Speaking at a meeting with industrialists and farmers, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the package will help stabilize the economy and encourage investment. He appreciated the efforts of Federal Minister for Power Awais Leghari and his team for preparing the plan. The Prime Minister said the government is committed to providing affordable energy and promoting sustainable economic progress.
PM Shehbaz noted that a similar initiative launched last winter had led to increased power consumption, higher industrial output, and job creation. He said the reduced Electricity Rate would further boost growth in both sectors and support long-term national development.
