In a high-level all-party meeting, Indian government officials admitted to a significant intelligence lapse regarding the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. Officials from the Intelligence Bureau and Ministry of Home Affairs reportedly did not foresee a strike in the area due to its lack of prior incidents.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju confirmed that floor leaders were thoroughly briefed on the situation by the intelligence and security agencies. The meeting comes in the aftermath of Tuesday’s deadly attack in Kashmir, which claimed the lives of at least 26 people.

Opposition parties, including the Congress, expressed their support for the government while also raising questions over the security failure. “The opposition has given full support to the government to take any action,” said Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
The rare admission by intelligence agencies has sparked concerns over gaps in regional threat assessment, prompting calls for a more proactive security approach in areas previously considered low-risk.
