Google to Invest $15B, Build Biggest AI Hub in India

Google has announced a massive $15 billion investment in India over the next five years, unveiling plans to establish its largest artificial intelligence (AI) hub outside the United States in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

At an event in New Delhi, Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian revealed that the project would be a “gigawatt-scale AI hub”, eventually expanding to multiple gigawatts as demand for AI technologies continues to soar in India, which is expected to have over 900 million internet users by the end of this year.

India’s IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw praised the investment, calling it a major boost to the country’s “India AI vision”, while Andhra Pradesh’s Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Technology Minister Nara Lokesh hailed it as a “game-changing moment” for the state’s digital future.

The announcement comes amid growing global interest in India’s tech landscape. AI companies like Anthropic, OpenAI, and Perplexity have all revealed expansion plans and partnerships in India, recognizing the nation’s rapidly developing AI and digital ecosystem.
