Google sold its domain hosting business

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]Squarespace reportedly paid $180 million for Google names, which hosted over 10 million names for businesses and individuals worldwide.

Google Domains, a premium domain service managed by Google, has recently been sold to Squarespace in a deal worth approximately $180 million; this revelation came as a surprise to Google Domains users who praised the service for its speed and reliability.

Google names, which was launched in 2014, hosts nearly 10 million names for organisations and individuals all over the world. These domains will now all be transferred over to Squarespace in what Google terms a “seamless transfer of domains.”

Squarespace, founded in 2004, is a website builder and hosting service based in New York, USA. Squarespace, like other drag-and-drop web building tools, makes it easy for people to construct and customise their websites.

If you are a Google Domains customer who is concerned about pricing changes following Squarespace’s acquisition, you won’t have to worry for another year or so because the agreement clearly requires Squarespace to retain customer prices for at least 12 months after purchasing and transferring.

The transfer of domains and all other Google Domains assets, according to Squarespace, might take months and is scheduled to be finished by the third quarter of 2023.

“We are extremely proud to be chosen to serve the customers of the Google Domains business,” said Anthony Casalena, CEO & Founder of Squarespace.

“Domains are an essential component of every business’s online presence and a critical component of web infrastructure.” “We are excited to serve these new customers, just as we have served millions with our domain products, and we are committed to ensuring a smooth transition,” he added.

Analysts believe that this transfer of authority for a premium service will have an impact on Google Domains’ client base and reputation, allowing big competitors such as ‘Godaddy’ to gain larger market shares.
