Late on Saturday and into early Sunday, many Android users experienced widespread crashes of the Google app, displaying a persistent “Google keeps stopping” error. The issue primarily affected those attempting to search through the app, causing it to crash immediately upon opening. Even older versions of the app were impacted, and uninstalling updates through the App Info option did not resolve the problem.

Users trying to open the Google app from their home screens or search using the Google Search bar widget encountered crashes. The Pixel Launcher search bar showed results for a brief moment before shutting down, and the Voice Search microphone also triggered failures. Each instance resulted in the “Google keeps stopping” message.

The issue affected both stable and beta versions of the Google Search app on devices running Android 15, 14, and earlier, impacting popular models like Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy. Despite this, other Google services like Google Assistant and Google Lens continued to function normally, and users could still access google.com through Chrome for Android.

By around 11:00 PM PT on Saturday, some users reported the app was working again. Google acknowledged the disruption and advised clearing the app cache and data as a temporary fix. The company confirmed the issue was fully resolved by 1:11 AM PT on Sunday.

Earlier, Google’s status dashboard noted: “The issue with serving has been mitigated… try to clear the app cache and app data.” Later, they announced, “We fixed the issue with serving. There will be no more updates.”
