Google Chrome is testing new AI-powered features aimed at improving user safety while browsing the web. These tools are designed to help users evaluate the credibility of websites and protect them from potential scams.
One of the key features being tested is “Store reviews.” This tool uses AI to generate summaries of reviews from trusted independent platforms, such as Trustpilot and ScamAdvisor. These summaries appear in the page info bubble, making it easier for users to assess the reputation of online stores without visiting multiple review sites.

In addition, Google is testing a scam detection feature called “Client Side Detection Brand and Intent for Scam Detection.” Using a large language model (LLM), this tool scans web pages to determine their authenticity and identify potential scams. The feature works on-device, ensuring that user data remains private and is not uploaded to the cloud.
These new features, currently available in Chrome Canary, align with the growing trend of using AI for web security. Similar tools have been introduced by other tech companies, such as Microsoft’s AI-powered “scareware blocker” in its Edge browser. Google’s efforts further solidify Chrome’s position as the leading web browser while aiming to tackle the increasing threats from online scams.
