In a startling and unapologetic confession aired on Sidhu Moose Wala’s birth anniversary, Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar admitted to orchestrating the Punjabi rapper’s 2022 assassination. Speaking to the BBC in a six-hour interview, Brar said he had “no remorse whatsoever” for the killing, calling it an act of retribution.
Moose Wala, a towering figure in Punjabi music and culture, was ambushed and gunned down on May 29, 2022, in broad daylight near his native village in Mansa. The attack came just a day after the Punjab government reduced his official security. Twenty-eight years old at the time of his death, the singer’s popularity stretched far beyond India, with fans across the globe mourning his loss.

Brar, a known associate of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, claimed Moose Wala had sided with a rival gang, and blamed him for the 2021 murder of Bishnoi associate Vicky Middukhera. Although Moose Wala was never officially charged, Brar said the lack of legal consequences forced him to act, citing a “complete lack of faith in the justice system.”
The confession has raised alarm among security agencies and reignited concerns over the growing influence of gang networks in northern India. Analysts say the killing has emboldened criminal syndicates, who have since ramped up extortion threats against celebrities and businessmen.
Despite dozens of arrests and international pressure, Brar remains at large, reportedly operating from Canada. His open admission has renewed diplomatic calls for his extradition, even as the cultural and political ripple effects of Sidhu Moose Wala’s murder continue to be felt across Punjab and beyond.
