Teens in Karachi and Mumbai Stage Fake Kidnappings to Extort Money

In an unusual turn of events, two teenagers from Karachi and Mumbai staged fake kidnappings in a bid to extort money from their families.

In Karachi, Musfira, a teenage girl, orchestrated her own abduction and demanded a ransom of Rs 1.5 million from her father. Police investigations revealed that this scheme was devised seven months ago after Musfira eloped with her friend, Waleed, and married him in Punjab. In December, her father received a ransom demand through social media, claiming that she had been kidnapped. The ransom payment was reportedly collected near Steel Town in Karachi. However, after further investigation, it was discovered that Musfira and Waleed had staged the entire event. Both were located and returned to their families, and the case, originally filed as a kidnapping at Tipu Sultan police station, was reclassified as a hoax.

In a similar incident in Mumbai, 20-year-old Ankit faked his own kidnapping to extort Rs 30,000 from his father, allegedly to repair his motorbike. Ankit sent a WhatsApp message to his father, instructing him to pay the ransom by scanning a QR code. When Ankit failed to return home, his father, Nanelal Yadav, reported him missing to the police. Within two hours, police teams from the Valiv police station traced Ankit. Initially, Ankit had called his uncle, claiming he had been abducted by three men, but after further investigation, it became clear that he had staged the entire ordeal to extort money.

Both incidents highlight the extreme measures some individuals will take for personal gain, leaving their families and authorities entangled in fabricated crises.
