Georgia Mandates Travel Insurance for Visa-Free Entry

Georgia has recently implemented changes to its visa rules, now requiring travelers to possess travel insurance when visiting the country. Effective June 1st, tourists from 95 countries enjoying visa-free privileges will be obligated to obtain travel insurance. This requirement, however, currently does not extend to visa-exempt travelers, though it will soon encompass them as well. The overarching goal of this decision is to ensure that all visitors, irrespective of their entry privileges, are adequately covered in the event of unforeseen medical emergencies.

The stipulated travel health insurance policy for Georgia must encompass a minimum of €30,000 in medical expenses and remain valid for the entirety of the traveler’s stay, whether it spans a day, a week, or a month. Furthermore, it is imperative that the insurance documentation be presented upon entry into Georgia, and it must be available in either Georgian, English, or Russian languages.
