GB Government to Establish 14 Freelancing Centers and Upgrade 3 Software Technology Parks

The Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), Special Communications Organization (SCO), and the Gilgit-Baltistan School and Education Department have signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at enhancing the region’s IT infrastructure and promoting freelancing opportunities. These agreements are designed to position Gilgit-Baltistan as a central hub for IT freelancing, digital education, and innovation.

The first MoU establishes a partnership between PSEB and the IT Department of Gilgit-Baltistan to create Software Technology Hubs in the districts of Diamer, Ghizer, and Nagar. These hubs will act as key innovation centers, with PSEB providing the technical expertise needed to foster development in the area.

The second MoU, involving the SCO, the IT Department, and the Education Department of Gilgit-Baltistan, focuses on the establishment of 14 IT centers in schools throughout the region. These centers aim to enhance digital literacy among students and equip them with essential IT skills.

The signing ceremony featured notable officials, including IT Advisor Suraiya Zaman, Chief Secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan Abrar Ahmed Mirza, Sector Commander SCO Colonel Faheem, Secretary of Education Akhtar Hussain Rizvi, and Secretary of IT Riaz Ahmed. In her address, IT Advisor Suraiya Zaman emphasized the government’s commitment to transforming Gilgit-Baltistan into an IT hub, highlighting the importance of these partnerships in creating opportunities for local youth through training and professional development.

Gilgit-Baltistan government spokesperson Faiz Ullah Faraq noted that these initiatives represent a significant step in the region’s digital transformation and economic growth. The freelancing centers will utilize the IT labs established in 14 schools during the second shift, providing additional opportunities for youth to engage in freelancing and further enhancing the region’s IT capabilities.
