Thousands Flee Gaza City As Israeli Airstrikes Leave 91 Dead

Gaza City faced its heaviest bombardment in two years on Tuesday, as Israeli strikes killed at least 91 people and forced thousands of residents to flee. The relentless attacks destroyed homes, mosques, and high-rise buildings, reducing entire neighborhoods to rubble. The United Nations condemned the offensive as “horrendous,” highlighting the severe humanitarian impact on civilians.

Residents described scenes of fire and smoke engulfing the city. Long lines of families carrying belongings stretched along al-Rashid Street, with vans, carts, and people on foot trying to escape. Many who initially vowed to stay have now abandoned their homes, uncertain if they will ever return. Health authorities confirmed that among the 91 killed were evacuees struck while traveling in vehicles along the coastal road. At least 17 buildings, including the Aybaki Mosque in the Tuffah neighborhood, were completely destroyed.

Israeli forces deployed explosive-laden robots capable of demolishing multiple housing units simultaneously. Rights groups reported that at least 15 such machines were active in Gaza City. In addition, tanks advanced from the north, south, and east, intensifying the assault on the city and leaving essential services disrupted.

According to Gaza’s Government Media Office, 350,000 people were displaced within Gaza City, while another 190,000 left the city entirely. Israeli military sources provided a similar estimate of 350,000 residents fleeing. The southern regions remain dangerous, with overcrowded camps such as Al-Mawasi also coming under fire. Civilians seeking refuge face limited options and deteriorating conditions.

Once home to nearly one million returning residents, Gaza City is now witnessing another mass exodus. Families struggle to find safety as the bombardment continues. The ongoing attacks have deepened the humanitarian crisis, leaving thousands vulnerable and in urgent need of aid. The situation remains critical, with no immediate safe zones available for displaced civilians.
