Saudi astronomy experts have announced that the full Moon will align directly above the Holy Kaaba on Saturday night. The alignment is expected to occur at 10:40 p.m. Saudi Standard Time.
At the time of the event, the Moon will be approximately 91 percent illuminated, making it highly visible in the night sky. Several bright stars are also expected to be seen alongside the Moon during this rare alignment.
Engineer Majed Abu Zahra, head of the Saudi Astronomical Society, explained that this alignment provides an opportunity for people to determine the Qibla direction by observing the Moon’s position. He noted that no telescopes or special equipment are needed, as the event is visible to the naked eye.
Astronomers said the Moon will be 11.3 to 11.6 days old in its 29.5-day lunar cycle, placing it in a mid-phase that enhances visibility. However, they cautioned that local weather conditions may affect how clearly the alignment can be observed.
Authorities emphasized that the alignment will be visible for a short period around the exact timing, so observers are advised to plan carefully. Saudi astronomical officials also noted that this type of alignment is rare, combining both educational and spiritual significance.
The phenomenon is expected to attract interest from astronomy enthusiasts, religious observers, and the general public. Many are preparing to witness the full Moon directly above the Holy Kaaba, marking a unique event that blends natural beauty with religious symbolism.
