However, a mishap that led to him missing his flight to join the team ultimately set him back. Gohar recalls, “I waited until late at night for travel details, then was told to rest. I could not wake up in time. The next morning, they blamed everything on me. I was devastated.”
Despite his undeniable talent, Gohar struggled to break into the national team. He played just one ODI in 2015 and a Test match in 2021, but he was never able to secure a permanent spot. His impressive performances in county cricket, including taking 47 wickets and scoring 500 runs for Gloucestershire in 2022, still failed to earn him consistent consideration by the Pakistan Cricket Board.
A Bold Decision: Switching Allegiances to England
After years of frustration, Gohar made the bold decision to switch allegiances, leveraging his British passport to become eligible to play for England. Playing for Middlesex in the 2025 County Championship, Gohar has already taken 15 wickets, showcasing his skill and resilience. “I think I have just reached my prime, and I feel ready to take on this new challenge,” Gohar said.
Despite knowing the challenges of being a spinner in England, he embraced the opportunity, adding, “I had heard England was the toughest place for spinners to get wickets, but I got wickets. That was the point I decided, right, I am going to take my chance.”
