Floodwaters are rapidly advancing toward Baloki, raising serious concerns for nearby districts. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has warned that water levels at Baloki will rise within the next 18 hours.
This rise is due to a strong flow of floodwaters downstream in the River Ravi. According to PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia, the surge will affect low-lying areas in Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, and Sahiwal.
He added that the floodwaters are expected to reach the town of Sadhrai in approximately 20 hours. Local administrations have been alerted and are preparing emergency response plans.
The PDMA chief said the situation is being made worse by India’s continued release of water from Thien Dam and Madhopur. This extra water is adding pressure to an already critical situation in the River Ravi.
“A major flood surge has passed through Ravi and is now moving quickly towards Baloki,” Irfan Ali Kathia stated. He emphasized the need for timely action to protect people and property in the affected areas.
Authorities are monitoring the floodwaters closely and have advised people in at-risk regions to stay alert. Evacuation plans are being put in place in case the water levels rise faster than expected.
Relief teams are on standby, and equipment has been sent to vulnerable locations. Rescue officials are also working with local governments to manage the possible impact.
The PDMA has urged citizens to follow official updates and move to safer ground if instructed. People living near the river should avoid unnecessary travel and keep emergency supplies ready.
Floodwaters continue to threaten parts of Punjab, and the situation remains serious. The government is taking all possible steps to reduce risk and provide timely help.
