[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]On Friday, several passengers traveling to Gilgit-Baltistan and Islamabad faced difficulties as parts of the Karakoram Highway, which connects Punjab to Gilgit-Baltistan before crossing into China, were blocked due to rain-triggered floods. The roadblock occurred in Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, leaving travelers stranded, according to officials and a traveler.
Ghulam Abbas, the Deputy Director of the National Highway Authority for Shangla and Kohistan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, reported that the Karakoram Highway was blocked at Jijal, Pattan, Uchar Nullah, and other areas. The Frontier Works Organisation was working to clear the roadblocks.
Furthermore, the bridge on Uchar Nallah, which was washed away by floods in August last year, has not been rebuilt yet. Abbas mentioned that an under-construction bridge at the site would be opened for traffic from today as the makeshift route used after the 2022 floods had been damaged.

Due to the floods, several link roads in the region were also blocked, and Gilgit-Baltistan and Kohistan were cut off due to the closure of the Karakoram Highway.
Asadullah Khan, the chairman of Upper Kohistan’s Harban tehsil, reported that heavy rainfall caused streams in the area to overflow, resulting in the suspension of road traffic, blockage of pedestrian paths, and damage to water supply schemes.
