The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Punjab has issued a high alert for potential flooding in several key areas of the province over the next 24 hours.
According to the PDMA spokesperson, there is a significant risk of high-level flooding in the Marala, Khanki, and Qadirabad regions along the Chenab River. The water flow in the Chenab is projected to increase from 200,000 cusecs to 250,000 cusecs due to water releases from India, causing a rapid rise in the water level at the Qadirabad Barrage. Residents in these areas are advised to move to safer locations.

The Ravi River is expected to experience a flow of 40,000 to 55,000 cusecs at Jassar and Shahdara, prompting a low-level flood warning. A moderate flood situation is already affecting Nullah Baeen, while a low-level flood continues in Palku. Additionally, a low-level flood warning has been issued for the Indus River. In response to these developments, the PDMA and local administration are on high alert. PDMA DG Irfan Ali Kathia confirmed that all necessary preparations have been made. Special instructions have been given to authorities in the Chenab, Ravi, and other river regions to stay vigilant.
Alerts have been sent to the commissioners of Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Lahore, Multan, and Sahiwal divisions, as well as to deputy commissioners across Punjab. Emergency control rooms are fully operational, and Rescue 1122 teams are prepared for rapid response. DG Kathia has advised evacuating homes and livestock in flood-prone areas to reduce risk. Residents in vulnerable areas are urged to remain cautious and report any emergencies to the PDMA’s emergency helpline at 1129.
