A young man in flood-hit Kamalia, Punjab, brought his newlywed wife home by boat as severe flooding continues to devastate multiple regions of the province. Footage showed the couple in life jackets being assisted by rescue officials through submerged villages.
The wedding procession traveled by boat from Kalira Adda to Khan Da Chak, where the bride was sent off in the same vessel before being taken to her new home. The floods, caused by the overflowing Sutlej River, have submerged numerous villages and farmland, wiping out crops across vast areas.
Authorities issued a high-level flood alert after India released additional water into the Sutlej, worsening the crisis at Harike Lower and Ferozepur Lower. In Ganda Singh Wala, stagnant floodwaters have submerged villages and triggered disease outbreaks among displaced residents.
In Vehari, Burewala, and Mailsi, over 90 villages remain underwater, displacing 80,000 people and destroying 60 acres of crops. Bahawalpur’s Khairpur Tamiwali Tehsil and Arifwala have also been heavily affected, with thousands of acres of farmland lost and dozens of villages submerged.
