Flood Emergency Persists In Punjab As Several Villages Remain Submerged

Punjab continues to face a severe flood emergency as rivers overflow and water levels rise. At Head Panjnad on the River Chenab, flow has crossed 609,000 cusecs, creating dangerous conditions for surrounding areas.

In Jalalpur Pirwala, broken embankments submerged dozens of villages. An emergency was declared, and rescue operations have been underway since last night. The Chief Minister of Punjab supervised evacuation efforts directly.

Authorities confirmed that 143 people were rescued in the latest operation. Over the past 24 hours, 2,343 individuals were evacuated from Multan. In total, 10,810 people have been shifted to safer locations.

The district administration reported that 350,000 people and more than 300,000 animals have been evacuated from affected areas. Across Punjab, around 2 million residents and 1.5 million livestock have been relocated due to the flood.

Several villages in Muzaffargarh’s Tehsil Ali Pur are underwater. In Khairpur Tamewali, the River Sutlej swelled, breaking the protective embankment at Fazlu Kokara. Thousands of acres of standing crops were damaged in Rahim Yar Khan and Liaquatpur.

Officials warned that a major flood wave is expected to pass through Kot Mithan in Rajanpur. At Head Trimmu, water flow reached 543,000 cusecs. High flood levels were also recorded at Head Suleimanki, Head Balloki, and Sadhnai. At Head Muhammad Wala, water flow touched 400,000 cusecs.

A large wave from Head Trimmu is likely to reach Multan today. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said flood conditions in Multan could last for the next three days.

At Kotri Barrage on the River Indus, water levels continue to fluctuate. Current inflow stands at 236,116 cusecs, while outflow is 231,763 cusecs. Officials reported an inflow decrease of 8,167 cusecs over the last 24 hours.

The ongoing flood has forced mass evacuations, caused crop losses, and disrupted rural life across Punjab.
