The government has announced a major relief package for citizens affected by Flood 2025, deferring electricity bills and offering installment options.
Under the new measures, agricultural and commercial electricity consumers can postpone their August 2025 bills until December. Payments for these deferred bills can be made in installments from January to June 2026.
This initiative is part of a larger Rs. 17 billion relief effort aimed at providing support to domestic, commercial, and agricultural users affected by the floods. Domestic consumers have received Rs. 11 billion in bill waivers, while Rs. 6 billion in commercial and agricultural bills have been deferred.
Around 2.5 million electricity consumers across the country are expected to benefit from these measures. Domestic users who already paid their August bills have received refunds. Meanwhile, commercial and agricultural consumers are exempt from paying bills for four months to reduce financial stress caused by Flood 2025.
For commercial consumers, the deferred amounts will be divided into fixed installments and added to their bills from January to June 2026. This approach ensures a manageable repayment plan and prevents sudden financial burdens.
Officials emphasized that the move is aimed at supporting households and businesses affected by Flood 2025, giving them time to recover before resuming regular electricity payments. The initiative also ensures that essential power services continue without disruption.
The government hopes these steps will help restore economic stability for flood-affected communities and assist them in rebuilding livelihoods. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and are committed to providing further relief as needed.
