The Pakistan Super League (PSL) has expanded with a new franchise as Indonesia-based FKS Group purchased a PSL team for Rs1.75 billion. The newly acquired team has officially been named Hyderabad, marking the league’s seventh franchise.
The auction for the inclusion of two new PSL teams took place at the Jinnah Convention Centre in Islamabad. Several companies participated in the bidding process, which was highly competitive. Following the withdrawal of former Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen, nine bidders remained in the race for the new franchises.
At the start of the auction ceremony, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi awarded Rs90 million to the team that won the Rising Star Asia Cup. Another cash prize of Rs18.5 million was given to the team that won the Hong Kong Sixes title. These awards highlighted the achievements of emerging cricket teams in Asia.
The two successful bidders for the PSL teams have the option to select their team names from six cities: Rawalpindi, Hyderabad, Faisalabad, Gilgit, Muzaffarabad, and Sialkot. FKS Group chose Hyderabad, officially confirming it as their franchise city.
The addition of Hyderabad as a new PSL team reflects the league’s growing popularity and commercial success. Cricket fans are excited to see how the new franchise will compete against established teams in the league. Analysts say this expansion will increase competition and broaden the fan base across Pakistan.
The purchase by the Indonesia-based FKS Group also shows rising international interest in the PSL. Foreign investors are now keen to be part of the league, attracted by its growing viewership and commercial potential.
The newly formed PSL team Hyderabad is expected to begin player selection and team preparations soon. League officials say the team will focus on building a competitive squad for the upcoming season.
