UPPER DIR – A joint counterterrorism operation by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) resulted in the killing of five terrorists in Upper Dir. The operation took place in multiple locations, including Dobando Dara, Barikot, Salamkot, and Hatan Darra.
The terrorists were linked to an attack on a police van in Panahkot on August 14. That attack killed three policemen and injured six others. Officials said the militants were Indian-backed and associated with the group Fitna al-Hindustan.
During the clash, a civilian named Yar Muhammad was martyred. Eight policemen were also injured but are now out of danger after receiving treatment at District Headquarters Hospital Dir.
District Police Officer (DPO) Upper Dir confirmed that heavy gunfire continued late into the night. Four bodies of the slain terrorists were recovered, while clearance operations were ongoing in the surrounding areas.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi praised the efforts of the KP Police and CTD. He described their performance as professional and said the terrorists of Fitna al-Hindustan were defeated by the valour of the security forces.
The minister also expressed sympathy for the family of the civilian martyr and wished a speedy recovery for the injured policemen. He emphasized that the nation stands united with security forces in their fight against terrorism.
This operation in Upper Dir is part of continued efforts to eliminate terrorist threats in the region and ensure safety for local residents. Authorities remain vigilant to prevent any further attacks and maintain law and order.
