Five Soldiers Martyred in Army Helicopter Crash in Gilgit-Baltistan

Two pilots and three technical crew members of the Pakistan Army were martyred on Monday when a military helicopter crashed in the Thore area of Chilas, Diamer district, Gilgit-Baltistan.

Diamer DPO Abdul Hameed confirmed that the MI-16 helicopter was carrying two army majors and three technical staff, all of whom lost their lives in the crash.

According to the Gilgit-Baltistan Information Department, the aircraft developed a technical fault and attempted an emergency landing before going down. A fire broke out after the crash, prompting rescue teams, law enforcement, and district officials to rush to the site.

The Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister expressed grief over the tragedy and directed immediate relief efforts. Senior military officials, including Commander FCNA, DG GB Scouts, and the Commissioner of Diamer Division, also reached the site, where locals had gathered in large numbers.

This incident comes just weeks after a government helicopter crashed during relief operations in Mohmand district on August 15, claiming the lives of two pilots and five crew members.
