Five Children Tragically Suffocate to Death in Gujrat, Pakistan

GUJRAT: Five children from a family, including four siblings and their cousin, died from suffocation caused by smoke from burning coals used for warmth.

The tragic incident took place late Saturday night in a residential area near Old Bakra Mandi on Shah Jahangir Road. Police and rescue officials reported that Tayyaba Shafique, the children’s mother, had placed burning coals in the room to warm it and went outside. Upon returning, she found all five children unconscious.

The children were rushed to Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Teaching Hospital, where doctors confirmed their deaths. The victims included 13-year-old Laiba and her siblings — 11-year-old Hashim, 10-year-old Hadi, and 6-year-old Hannan. Their six-year-old cousin, Salim Fayaz, also died.

The children’s father is currently working in Malaysia. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
