The UAE Fatwa Council has officially declared the prescribed amounts for Fitrana (Zakat al-Fitr) and Fidyah for Ramadan 2026, following a detailed market price assessment carried out in coordination with the Ministry of Economy and Tourism. The updated figures aim to ensure that charitable contributions align with current living costs and effectively support those in need during the holy month.
For Ramadan 2026, the council has fixed Fitrana at either 2.5 kilograms of rice or a cash equivalent of 25 AED per person. Meanwhile, individuals who are unable to observe fasting due to valid reasons are required to pay Fidyah, which has been set at 3.25 kilograms of wheat or 20 AED for each missed fast. This amount must be given to an underprivileged person.
The council also outlined penalties for certain violations. If a fast is deliberately broken without a valid excuse, a compensation of 1,200 AED is mandatory, which will be distributed among 60 needy individuals. Similarly, violations committed during Hajj or Umrah will incur a fine of 120 AED, to be shared among six deserving people. In addition, the minimum cost of providing one Iftar meal has been estimated at 20 AED.
A spokesperson for the Fatwa Council emphasized that paying Fitrana is a religious obligation for every financially capable Muslim, whether male or female. The purpose of this charity is to ensure that disadvantaged families can also partake in the blessings and celebrations of Ramadan.
Authorities encouraged residents to pay their dues anytime from the start of Ramadan until before the Eid prayer and to make donations through registered organizations such as the Zakat Fund, Emirates Red Crescent, and other approved charities across the UAE.
