Gilgit-Baltistan has recorded its first polio case of 2025, sparking renewed concerns among health authorities amid ongoing efforts to eliminate the disease from Pakistan. The case was detected in a two-year-old child from the Diamer district.
The National Institute of Health (NIH) confirmed the diagnosis after laboratory tests identified the presence of the poliovirus. This new case raises the national tally to 11 for the year, highlighting the persistent challenge Pakistan faces in completely eradicating polio.
