Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, a decorated officer and spokesperson for the Indian Army, has become the center of a political storm after BJP minister Vijay Shah made a controversial remark, calling her a “sister of terrorists.” The statement sparked widespread condemnation and led to legal consequences for the minister.

Shah alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had “deployed the sister of terrorists, Colonel Qureshi, to teach a lesson,” a comment that triggered immediate backlash from the Congress Party, which launched a protest in Madhya Pradesh.

During the demonstration, Congress workers blackened Vijay Shah’s nameplate and chanted slogans such as:

  • “Modi Sarkar Murdabad”

The Madhya Pradesh High Court took suo motu notice of the matter and directed police to register a case against the minister for defaming and insulting Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, marking a rare judicial intervention in a politically sensitive issue.
