He dedicated the honour to the people of Pakistan, the armed forces, and especially to the martyrs and veterans from both civil and military institutions, including law enforcement agencies.

The Army Chief remarked that this recognition symbolized the strength and unity of the Pakistani nation and its brave armed forces, particularly those who stood firm like a “Wall of Steel” against India’s unprovoked and unlawful aggression.

The ceremony followed the government’s official approval to elevate General Syed Asim Munir (Nishan-e-Imtiaz Military) to the historic rank of Field Marshal, a decision taken during a federal cabinet meeting.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated the nation on the success of Operation Bunyan Mursoos during the Battle for Truth, which successfully thwarted enemy aggression.

The official statement highlighted that on the night of May 6–7, 2025, India launched an unprovoked and unjust war, targeting innocent civilians. The statement condemned the violations of Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Under General Asim Munir’s exceptional leadership, Pakistan mounted a coordinated and strategic defense, resulting in a historic military victory. In recognition of his outstanding command and defense of national sovereignty, the cabinet approved his promotion, with the prime minister briefing President Asif Ali Zardari on the decision.
