The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has frozen the bank account of senior journalist and TV anchor Kashif Abbasi’s wife, Mehr Bukhari, Abbasi revealed on Wednesday.
In a post on X, Abbasi said his wife discovered her account was blocked under FIA orders when she tried to access it. He criticized the move, noting his own name has been on the block/no-fly list for months, calling it an attack on basic citizenship rights.
Mehr Bukhari, also a well-known journalist, currently hosts Dunya Meher Bokhari Kay Sath. Abbasi, recognized for his long-running ARY News show Off The Record, was taken off-air earlier this year after a critical monologue on Pakistan’s political system.
In that broadcast, Kashif Abbasi accused political leaders of undermining the Constitution and violating citizens’ rights for political purposes. Following his remarks, ARY distanced itself, suspended him, and aired an apology.
Abbasi is among several journalists, including Habib Akram and Talat Hussain, who faced similar action in early 2025.
