The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) apprehended two individuals, including a human smuggler in Gujranwala, over links to the Greece boat tragedy.
On December 14, foreign media reported a wooden migrant boat capsized near Gavdos Island, Greece, claiming at least five lives.

FIA officials identified the suspects as Mohammad Aslam and Saeed Ahmed, both implicated in human smuggling activities. Mohammad Aslam is accused of direct involvement in the tragedy and being part of an international smuggling network. He allegedly lured victims with promises of European travel, amassing Rs8.5 million, and routed them through Libya before attempting Greece-bound voyages.
In another operation, the FIA detained a smuggler in Gujarat for forging travel documents and exploiting individuals for financial gain.
The Foreign Office confirmed four Pakistani fatalities among the victims. Pakistan’s embassy in Athens is coordinating with Greek authorities to assist survivors and repatriate the deceased.
