Fee Hike for FA and FSC Exams Raises Concerns

The Education Boards have announced a significant increase in the admission fees for the upcoming annual Intermediate examinations for FA (Faculty of Arts) and FSC (Faculty of Science), which are scheduled to begin on April 22, 2025. This decision has sparked concern among students and parents, particularly as the new fees apply to both regular and private students, with the online submission of fees now mandatory alongside the admission form.

The revised fee structure for students in the science and arts practical groups is as follows: single fee of Rs5,830, double fee of Rs7,630, and triple fee of Rs9,430. For arts students without practical subjects, the fees are slightly lower: single fee of Rs5,730, double fee of Rs7,430, and triple fee of Rs9,130. Regular students in the science and arts practical groups will pay a reduced fee: single fee of Rs4,730, double fee of Rs6,430, and triple fee of Rs8,130. Regular arts students will pay: single fee of Rs4,630, double fee of Rs6,230, and triple fee of Rs7,830. An additional registration fee of Rs1,000 will also be charged.

The last date to submit the online admissions with the single fee is January 24, 2025. After this date, students will face a double fee from January 25 to February 3, and a triple fee from February 4 to February 12. For those still submitting their admissions closer to the exam date, a triple fee plus a daily fine of Rs500 can be paid up to 10 days before the exams.

The hike has been strongly opposed by Abrar Ahmed Khan, President of the All Pakistan Private Schools Management Association (APPSMA), who believes the increase is excessive. He expressed his concerns that the earlier rise in matriculation fees had already placed a significant financial burden on students, and this additional hike in FA fees could discourage private students, especially female students, from sitting for their exams.
