The Federal Minister for Energy, Awais Leghari, has directed that all net metering applications submitted up to February 8, 2026, be processed under the previous regulatory framework. This move aims to remove confusion and provide clarity for applicants awaiting approval.
Under the minister’s instructions, applicants who submitted their requests by the February 8 deadline will continue to receive net metering benefits according to the old regulations. Immediate implementation directives have been issued to all electricity distribution companies across Pakistan, including K-Electric.
A total of 5,165 applications were submitted by the cut-off date. Once approved, these applications are expected to add 250.822 megawatts of capacity to the national power grid, supporting Pakistan’s renewable energy and sustainability goals.
Officials said the Federal Minister’s decision has resolved confusion among consumers and industry stakeholders about the status of pending net metering applications. Transparency in processing all applications is being prioritized to ensure fairness and efficiency.
The Federal Minister also urged electricity consumers to report any grievances or issues regarding net metering through the official helpline, 188. Authorities have been instructed to address complaints promptly and ensure that applicants receive timely updates on their cases.
