Federal Government Plans Rs104 Billion Budget for Power Sector Projects

The federal government has proposed a budget allocation of Rs104 billion for 47 power sector projects in the upcoming financial year. This investment aims to strengthen the country’s energy infrastructure and support industrial growth.

Among the key allocations, Rs15.97 billion has been earmarked for the Dasso hydropower project transmission line, while Rs11.62 billion will be dedicated to providing 600 MW of electricity to Allama Iqbal Industrial City. Additionally, Rs5.25 billion will fund a coal-powered electricity generation project designed to produce 1320 MW.

Other significant allocations include Rs2.94 billion for the advance metering project in IESCO and Rs1.3 billion for a 500 KV transmission line stretching from Matiari to Moro and Rahim Yar Khan. The plan also sets aside Rs3.1 billion for power development in special economic zones, including funds for Rashkai and Hattar Industrial Zones.

Furthermore, Rs478 million is allocated for constructing 200 KV substations in Dhabeji, Haripur, and Swabi. The Mummand Dam electricity transmission project and the CASA-1000 project will receive Rs2 billion and Rs3 billion respectively, highlighting the government’s commitment to expanding energy capacity.
