The federal government has launched a feasibility study for a major motorway project aimed at reducing traffic congestion in Karachi. The Karachi Northern Bypass will be expanded into the M-10 Motorway, providing a direct high-speed connection to the national motorway network.
The planned motorway project will stretch 134 kilometers, connecting Karachi to the M-6 Motorway at Jamshoro through the Kirthar Mountain Range. Officials say the project will transform the current bypass by widening parts of the Northern Bypass and constructing entirely new motorway segments across rugged terrain.
A 23-kilometer section of the road will also be expanded to six lanes, ensuring a continuous high-capacity route from Karachi Port to M-6. This expansion is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion in the city.
The feasibility study is being conducted by the National Engineering Services Pakistan (Nespak). During a review meeting, Federal Minister for Communications Aleem Khan and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah discussed project timelines and coordination. Both officials emphasized the importance of transparency and timely completion.
Minister Khan highlighted that the motorway project is designed to provide faster travel, reduce congestion, and support economic activity by improving the transport of goods to and from Karachi Port. The chief minister welcomed federal collaboration to ensure the project progresses efficiently.
The M-10 Motorway will not only serve local commuters but also facilitate long-distance travel, linking Karachi to key industrial and economic hubs across Sindh and the national motorway network. This motorway project is part of a broader initiative to modernize Pakistan’s infrastructure and enhance regional connectivity.
Officials expect that once completed, the motorway project will provide safer, faster, and more efficient travel, benefiting both commercial traffic and daily commuters. The federal and provincial governments remain committed to completing the M-10 Motorway on schedule while maintaining high construction standards.
The feasibility study is ongoing, and detailed designs are expected to be finalized in the coming months, paving the way for the commencement of construction for this vital infrastructure project.
The M-10 Motorway project promises to be a game-changer for Karachi’s traffic and regional connectivity, marking a significant step forward in Pakistan’s transport development plans.
