100,000 Social Media Influencers Delete Luxury Posts Over FBR Fears

The FBR has launched a nationwide campaign targeting social media influencers who flaunt luxury lifestyles while reporting low taxable income. Officials say the agency already possesses the necessary data, despite some users attempting to delete incriminating posts.

Sources confirmed that the FBR is actively monitoring over 100,000 social media accounts across multiple platforms. The crackdown focuses on individuals displaying foreign trips, luxury cars, designer clothing, and extravagant events that do not match their declared income.

Recently, the FBR prepared four new tax evasion cases against users from Rawalpindi, Lahore, Bahawalpur, and Islamabad. “In all cases, the declared income and visible spending do not match,” an FBR official stated. The operation has also extended to the son of a prominent South Punjab politician, whose case is reportedly finalized and awaiting court submission.

The FBR’s Intelligence and Investigation Directorate is leading the campaign, preparing three to four tax evasion cases daily. Authorities expect the first outcomes from this operation to emerge within a month.

To track undeclared wealth, the FBR is collecting spending data from wedding halls, dress designers, and beauty salons. These records help identify high-value social events and luxury expenditures that may indicate hidden income. Officials emphasized that all citizens, including influencers, must declare income accurately and comply with tax laws.

Industry observers note that the crackdown highlights the growing importance of digital monitoring in tax enforcement. Social media influencers are advised to review their online presence to ensure their visible lifestyle aligns with declared income.

The FBR’s ongoing campaign reflects a broader initiative to curb tax evasion in Pakistan. Authorities aim to ensure transparency, strengthen compliance, and set a precedent for stricter enforcement in the age of social media. This operation sends a clear message: extravagant lifestyles must be accurately reported and taxed under Pakistani law.
