FBR Targets over 20 Social Media Influencers for Concealing Income

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has launched investigations into over 20 social media influencers and individuals displaying lavish lifestyles online but declaring little to no income or assets in their tax filings. According to the FBR’s Lifestyle Monitoring Cell, one prominent travel vlogger showcased frequent international trips between 2020 and 2025, visiting destinations such as Dubai, Spain, the UK, Maldives, and Switzerland, among others. However, their declared income over these years remained strikingly low, with modest annual earnings ranging between Rs. 490,000 and Rs. 816,800 — a figure that starkly contrasts with the cost of their luxury travels.

The FBR says such discrepancies clearly indicate tax underreporting. In another case, authorities discovered Rs. 180.5 million in concealed assets linked to a political family member from South Punjab, including luxury cars like a Lexus LX 570, BMW i7, and Suzuki Hayabusa, none of which were declared in tax filings. Similarly, a third case revealed around Rs. 624 million worth of hidden assets, including 19 high-end vehicles such as a Corvette C8, Range Rover, Land Cruisers, and Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

Officials stated that these cases highlight large-scale tax evasion among social media personalities and elites. The FBR confirmed that investigations are ongoing, though names of those involved are being withheld in accordance with tax confidentiality laws.
