The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Tuesday sealed Saeed Book Bank, one of Islamabad’s largest and most well-known bookstores. The action was taken due to alleged tax evasion and non-compliance with mandatory regulations.
Deputy Commissioner RTO Islamabad, Awais Ishaque, confirmed that the bookstore failed to integrate its Point of Sales (POS) system with the FBR, a requirement under current tax laws. POS integration allows real-time monitoring of sales and ensures accurate tax collection. The FBR has emphasized that all major businesses must comply to avoid penalties or legal action.
Saeed Book Bank is renowned for its extensive collection of books and its significant presence in Islamabad. Authorities stated that the store is now under investigation, and the FBR will closely examine its financial and tax records. The move is part of the FBR’s broader nationwide crackdown on businesses accused of bypassing tax compliance measures.
The FBR has intensified efforts in recent months to ensure transparency and adherence to tax laws. Officials said that businesses failing to comply with POS integration will face strict consequences, including fines, sealing of premises, or other legal action.
The bookstore’s management has not publicly responded to the FBR’s action. Meanwhile, customers reported that the store remained closed following the sealing order. The authorities also highlighted that the FBR’s focus is on strengthening the tax system and promoting voluntary compliance among business owners across Pakistan.
Experts note that FBR’s initiatives aim to curb tax evasion, improve revenue collection, and ensure fairness in the business environment. Similar enforcement actions have been carried out in other cities, signaling the agency’s commitment to strict regulatory compliance.
The FBR has called on all businesses to promptly integrate POS systems and submit accurate tax data. Failure to comply, officials warn, may result in further strict measures. Saeed Book Bank’s case serves as a reminder of the FBR’s active monitoring and enforcement efforts nationwide.
