FBR Permits Use of Seized Luxury Cars in Operations

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has introduced a new policy allowing the use of confiscated and tampered vehicles above 1800cc for official operations, particularly by its Anti-Smuggling and Enforcement units. The decision, effective from April 2026, aims to strengthen field operations, especially in remote and border areas.

Under the updated rules, such vehicles can also be assigned to Customs formations operating in difficult regions of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. These include key border locations like Gwadar, Taftan, Chaman, Torkham, and Gilgit, where operational challenges require stronger logistical support. The policy is designed to improve mobility and enforcement capacity in these sensitive zones.

To ensure transparency, the FBR has introduced a standardized system for managing these vehicles. Only government and semi-government departments, along with public educational, medical, and scientific institutions, are eligible to acquire them. The authority has clearly stated that these vehicles cannot be sold to private individuals under any circumstances.

Customs formations will be given priority in the allocation process, and all requests must be supported with proper justification based on operational needs. A dedicated committee led by the Member Customs Operations will review and approve allocations. Regular quarterly assessments will also be conducted to evaluate vehicle requirements and make adjustments where necessary.

In addition, the FBR plans to implement a digital tracking system to maintain complete records of confiscated vehicles. This will include detailed information such as inspection reports, condition, legal status, and images, ensuring accountability and oversight.

At the end of their usable life, vehicles may be dismantled following official procedures. Those that cannot be allocated may be transferred free of cost to public institutions. Overall, the initiative reflects FBR’s effort to enhance operational efficiency while maintaining transparency.
