The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced that foreign tourists are now allowed to temporarily import vehicles into Pakistan for a period of three months, according to a notification issued on Friday.
The FBR’s notification details that tourists importing vehicles against a carnet-de-passage or a bank guarantee can take delivery of their vehicles without having to pay customs duties. This exemption is contingent upon the tourist declaring at the customs station or port of entry that they will not transfer ownership of the vehicle to anyone else during their stay in Pakistan.

Additionally, if a tourist finds it impractical to export the vehicle within the initial three-month period, they can apply to the relevant Collector for an extension. This extension can be granted for up to an additional three months, provided the tourist presents a valid carnet-de-passage or bank guarantee and undertakes not to leave the country during the extended period.
In a related announcement, the FBR clarified the treatment of goods brought in commercial quantities, stating that such goods will be confiscated by the adjudicating authority as defined in the Customs regulations.
