The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced a major crackdown on income tax non-filers starting October 16. The move comes after the 2025 tax filing deadline expired. Officials confirmed that no further extension will be granted and urged citizens to file their returns before midnight to avoid penalties.
The campaign will initially target high-profile non-filers, including individuals identified through FBR data monitoring. The authority is paying close attention to people who publicly display wealth on social media, such as luxury cars, expensive jewellery, designer clothing, and lavish properties. Frequent travelers and those spending extravagantly at events are also under scrutiny.
FBR’s social media monitoring team has collected extensive data from various platforms. This data helps identify individuals whose online lifestyles may not match their declared income. Notices will soon be sent to these potential non-filers. Officials emphasized that anyone flaunting wealth without reporting it may face inquiries, penalties, and additional taxes.
The enforcement will occur in phases. The first phase will focus on prominent non-filers immediately after the tax deadline. FBR officials also plan to track ownership of expensive homes, farmhouses, and other high-value properties. Late filers will be categorized separately and may incur extra penalties, highlighting the importance of timely compliance.
FBR stated that this crackdown aims to expand the tax net and ensure accountability. The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to fairness and transparency in Pakistan’s taxation system. Officials stressed that public displays of wealth must align with declared income, and enforcement measures will target discrepancies.
