A 10-month-old boy is fighting for his life after his father allegedly tortured and burned him during a violent altercation with his wife in Liaquatabad. The accused, Amir, was arrested by the Woman and Child Protection Unit following a complaint filed by his wife, Nasima.
The incident reportedly occurred on June 11 when an argument escalated between the couple. According to Nasima, Amir physically abused their infant son before placing the child’s hands and legs on a burning stove, leaving him with severe burns. The baby was initially taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and later transferred to the National Institute of Child Health (NICH) in critical condition.

Doctors at NICH confirmed that the child had suffered extreme physical abuse and remains in grave condition. Authorities were alerted, and Sobia Nazir, in-charge of the Woman and Child Protection Cell, visited the hospital to record the mother’s statement.
Police have registered a case against Amir based on Nasima’s complaint. The couple, married for two years, had been embroiled in disputes, with Amir claiming during interrogation that Nasima had been demanding a divorce. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances of the incident.
The arrest has sparked outrage, with calls for strict legal action against the accused. Child rights activists have urged authorities to ensure justice for the infant and strengthen protections for vulnerable children in domestic violence cases.
