Fashion Icon Giorgio Armani Passes Away at 91

The fashion world is in mourning following the death of legendary Italian designer Giorgio Armani, who passed away peacefully at 91 on Thursday, surrounded by his family at home.

Armani had been preparing to celebrate the 50th anniversary of his iconic brand with a major event during Milan Fashion Week this month.

In a statement, the Armani Group expressed deep sorrow: “It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our creator, founder, and guiding spirit, Giorgio Armani. Known to colleagues as Il Signor Armani, he remained dedicated to his work until the end, overseeing collections and future projects.”

A public viewing will take place at Milan’s Armani Teatro on Saturday and Sunday, followed by a private ceremony. Earlier this year, Armani had missed his Milan runway shows for the first time while recovering from an undisclosed illness.

Tributes from across the fashion industry have poured in, with Donatella Versace describing him as “a giant who made history and whose legacy will endure forever.”

Born in Piacenza in July 1934, Armani initially considered a medical career but discovered his passion for fashion while working as a window dresser in Milan, eventually becoming one of the 20th century’s most influential designers, redefining red carpet style and timeless elegance.
