Farhan Ghani, brother of Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani, was placed in police custody on Sunday. A local court granted police a one-day transit remand to investigate allegations against him. The case involves accusations of torture on a government official.
Farhan Ghani, who is also the Chairman of Chanesar Town, was arrested after a complaint was filed by government employee Hafiz Sohail Ahmed at the Firozabad police station. Sohail Ahmed reported that on August 22, he was attacked by 20 to 25 armed men while supervising fiber optic cable work on Shara-e-Faisal Service Road.
According to the FIR, despite identifying himself as a government official, Sohail Ahmed was beaten and threatened with death during the attack. The case includes serious charges such as terrorism, attempted murder, and criminal intimidation. Other suspects named in the case include Qamaruddin, Shakeel Chandio, Sikandar, and Rohan. Police have said more attackers may be identified during the ongoing investigation.
Following the case registration, Farhan Ghani and several associates surrendered at the police station. The court then approved a one-day transit remand, allowing police to continue their inquiry.
Saeed Ghani addressed the case on social media, confirming his brother’s arrest. He said Farhan Ghani and others would prove their innocence in court. According to the minister, the conflict began with a fight involving Farhan Ghani and the complainant, Sohail Ahmed. He added that registering a case is the complainant’s legal right and that all accused have cooperated with law enforcement.
This case has attracted attention due to Farhan Ghani’s political connections. Authorities are continuing their investigation while the legal process unfolds. The situation remains developing, with more updates expected as the inquiry progresses.
