Farhan Ghani, the Chairman of Chanesar Town and brother of Sindh Minister Saeed Ghani, was released on Saturday. His release followed the withdrawal of a complaint filed against him and two others. The case involved allegations of violence and threats.
According to defense lawyer Waqar Alam Abbasi, the complainant, Sohail Ahmed, submitted a written request to the investigating officer. In the request, Sohail stated that he no longer wished to continue with the case. After this withdrawal, police released Farhan Ghani and the other accused from Ferozabad police station without taking them to court.
The investigating officer will now submit a report to the court regarding their release, Abbasi added.
Earlier, Farhan Ghani and his associates were remanded in custody by the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) until August 30. The case was registered under sections related to terrorism, attempted murder, and criminal intimidation.
Sohail Ahmed had filed the First Information Report (FIR) alleging that he was attacked on August 22 while supervising fiber optic cable work on Shara-e-Faisal Service Road. He said about 20 to 25 armed men, traveling in three vehicles, assaulted him. Despite identifying himself, he was beaten and threatened with death.
Other suspects named in the case include Qamaruddin, Shakeel Chandio, Sikandar, and Rohan. Police stated that more attackers might be identified as the investigation continues.
Following the case registration, Farhan Ghani and several others voluntarily surrendered to the Ferozabad police.
The withdrawal of the complaint has led to the release of Farhan Ghani and the others. The police will now inform the court officially about their release.
This incident highlights tensions in the area, but with the case dropped, Farhan Ghani is now free. The legal process will continue based on further investigations.
