LAHORE – Fakhar Zaman, the Pakistan cricket team’s left-handed opener, has denied the notion that his exclusion from the national squad for the South Africa series was due to fitness issues.
The squad for the Test, ODI, and T20 series against South Africa recently left out Fakhar and several other key players. Interim white-ball head coach Aqib Javed had mentioned that Fakhar was not considered for selection as he had not yet regained full form and match fitness.

However, Fakhar addressed these fitness concerns during an interview after his team’s opening match in the National Domestic Champions T20 Cup, where he is representing the Markhors. “I am fit, which is why I’m playing, and if given a chance, I will definitely play for the Pakistan team,” Fakhar said confidently.
He also emphasized his commitment to performing well, recalling his memorable debut in the Champions Trophy and his pride in contributing to Pakistan’s success. Fakhar is determined to earn a spot in the team and deliver strong performances, particularly with the upcoming Champions Trophy in mind.
Head coach Aqib Javed had also clarified that the national selection committee remains in contact with Fakhar and will consider him for selection once he regains full fitness. Fakhar last represented Pakistan in June 2024 during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
