Faiza Saqlain Claims Maya Ali’s Brand Copied Her Designs ‘Flattered’

Renowned Pakistani fashion designer Faiza Saqlain has accused Maya Ali’s clothing line, Maya Pret, of copying her designs.

On Monday, October 27, Faiza Saqlain shared her concerns on Instagram Stories. She posted side-by-side photos of her own creations and similar outfits from Maya Pret. She wrote, “Should I be flattered? Inspiring this brand in ALL respects I must say, from dress to model to backdrop.”

Faiza Saqlain further added, “It’s getting boring now @mayapretofficial please come up with something of your own, can’t promise but hopeful that might sell too.” Her post quickly gained attention across social media platforms.

The allegations sparked debates among users. Many disagreed with Faiza Saqlain, claiming the designs highlighted were too generic to be considered copied. One user commented, “Is it only me who can’t see a single resemblance in all 3 outfits??? They are so much different.” Another wrote, “These designs are so common in every festive wear brand of Pakistan. What is Faiza even talking about?”

A third user added, “And what about Faiza’s tie and dye sarees? Did she mention being inspired by Manish Malhotra?” These responses show how divided public opinion is regarding originality in the fashion industry.

Maya Ali launched her clothing brand, MAYA Prêt-À-Porter, in June 2021. The line has become popular for its contemporary styles and festive collections. The controversy with Faiza Saqlain highlights ongoing discussions about inspiration versus imitation in Pakistan’s fashion world.

Despite the disagreements, Faiza Saqlain’s statements have brought attention to the importance of creativity and intellectual property in fashion. Her public call also encourages brands to maintain originality in their designs.
