Explosions Rock Walton Road in Lahore as Indian Drone Allegedly Shot Down Near Airport
Lahore, Pakistan — A series of loud explosions rattled Walton Road in Lahore on Thursday morning, sparking panic among residents in the Gopal Nagar and Naseerabad areas near Walton Airport. Witnesses reported seeing smoke clouds rising as people rushed out of their homes in fear.
According to police sources, an Indian drone, reportedly 5 to 6 feet in size, was shot down after it crossed into Pakistani airspace. Authorities claim the drone was carrying explosives and had flown dangerously close to sensitive installations. Officials said the drone was jammed and brought down by local security forces.
Police further stated the drone was intended for spying on strategic locations in Lahore. Rescue and law enforcement teams have cordoned off the area and are conducting investigations.
Airspace Closure Amid Rising Tensions
Earlier in the day, key commercial air routes in Lahore and Sialkot were temporarily closed due to escalating regional tensions, according to airport authorities. A Notice to Airmen (Notam) confirmed the closure, stating that airspace restrictions would remain in place until 12 noon on Thursday.
As a result, several Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flights were affected. A flight from Medina to Lahore was diverted to Karachi, while a Multan to Lahore flight also rerouted to Karachi due to operational delays.
The situation remains tense, with authorities urging the public to remain calm and stay updated through official channels.
