A powerful explosion inside a Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) police station in Peshawar has killed one officer and injured two others. The blast occurred late Tuesday night, sending shockwaves across the city and prompting an immediate security lockdown.
Initial police reports suggest that the explosion took place in the station’s investigation room, where confiscated weapons and explosives were stored. Officials are investigating whether the blast was accidental or the result of a planted device.
Rescue teams and bomb disposal units quickly reached the site, cordoning off the area and transporting the injured to Lady Reading Hospital. Doctors confirmed that both wounded officers are in stable condition and receiving treatment.
CTD officials said that an inquiry committee has been formed to determine the cause of the explosion and to assess any potential security lapses. Preliminary findings indicate that detonated material may have been recovered from a previous anti-terror operation.
Peshawar, which has faced repeated militant attacks in recent years, remains on high alert. Authorities have intensified security checks across sensitive installations following the incident.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s police chief expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life and praised the CTD’s ongoing efforts in combating terrorism across the province.
