GILGIT – The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) faces another setback as the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) sentenced Khalid Khurshid, former Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, to 34 years in prison and fined him Rs600,000.

Judge Rahmat Shah convicted Khurshid on multiple charges under the Anti-Terrorism Act for threatening government officials. The case stems from an incident on May 26, 2024, when Khurshid allegedly threatened security agencies and made derogatory remarks about the Chief Election Commissioner during a rally at Ittehad Chawk in Gilgit, according to the First Information Report (FIR).

The court also ordered NADRA to block Khurshid’s CNIC. Following the incident, Khurshid was declared a fugitive by the City Police, which published ads calling for his arrest.

Khurshid was represented by legal counsel during the trial. This ruling marks a significant step in the legal cases against the former chief minister, who faces numerous other charges alongside PTI party members.

Previously, Khurshid was disqualified for allegedly using a fake degree to obtain a bar council license. The court’s ruling followed a petition by Ghulam Shahzad Agha from the PPP, who claimed that Khurshid’s degree was never verified by the University of London and was deemed fraudulent by the HEC.
